SATTAHIP, Thailand (Feb. 06, 2009) -Seaman Matthew Atkinson from Taylorville, Ill. assigned to Beach Master Unit One stands by as Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1627 from Assault Craft Unit One lands in Sattahip, Thailand after departing the forward-deployed amphibious dock landing ship USS Tortuga (LSD 46) to off load Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to participate in Exercise Cobra Gold 09 (CG09). CG09 is an annual Thailand and U.S. co-sponsored joint coalition multinational military exercise designed to train a Thai, U.S. and Singaporean Coalition Task Force. The exercise will also include humanitarian civic action projects with participating nations from Indonesia , Japan , Singapore , Thailand and the United States. Exercise CG provides unique and dynamic training opportunities for participating military partners, while promoting relationship building between militaries and local communities.
