In addition to a framed certificate signed by the Secretary of the Army, the recipients receive a set of pens engraved with their names and the name of the award. This pen set was given to Michael R. Wilson who's performance was a major contributing factor in safeguarding seamless support to deployed Soldiers, finding efficiencies to reduce or avoid costs, and ensuring the equipment readiness of the force. His efforts overseeing the redistribution of Army-owned repair parts within Afghanistan resulted in a cost avoidance of from $3 to $6 million in secondary destination transportation costs each month during 2013 and more than $141 million over the life of the program. He was instrumental in establishing guidance on the management of serviceable returns across the Army, and he led efforts to streamline the shipping and handling process for turn-in for disposal.
