Substantial investigations have been conducted at Operable Unit No. 4 to determine the architecture of the solvent plume (carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethene and tetrachloroethene), to establish populations at risk, and to develop appropriate remedial action alternatives. Deep monitoring wells were installed using Rotosonic drilling to minimize impacts to off-post residents. Vertical aquifer profiling (sensors advancing in the borehole) provided real-time analytical data, at depth, allowing for real-time decision making.
