Dunwoody, right, and depot Commander Col. Ron Alberto listen as Gene Curran, left, explains the design process for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems and how it evolved from the depot-designed Universal Power Pack System during her recent visit to Tobyhanna Army Depot. “Employees here designed and fabricated the tactical power generator trailer used on the UAS SHADOW system,” said Curran, a mechanical engineer who works in the Production Engineering Directorate’s Design and Development Branch. During a stopover at the fabrication and machine shops, the general saw first hand how depot engineers use the Computer-Aided Engineering Demonstration, structural analysis and simulation, and rapid prototyping machine [to make plastic models] to design and develop new products.
