After a monsoon struck the Fort Irwin and the National Training Center, a five-man team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District deployed to the Southern California base to conduct initial damage assessments. Jose Rocha, a civil engineer, inspects a pedestrian bridge near the Mary Walker Clinic for damage and further use. The raging waters and debris flow from the monsoonal rainfall eroded the soil and concrete around the bridges' support footing. The bridge has been closed pending further analysis of the damage.
