FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas - John and Betty Thompson smile and share a quiet moment together as Maj. Gen. Adolph McQueen Jr., deputy commanding general for support, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), expresses his thanks Aug. 22 for their volunteer efforts at the Warrior and Family Support Center over the years. The Thompsons are known throughout the WFSC as "the cookie people" because they make homemade cookies for the wounded warriors every week. "You make this place smell like a million dollars," said McQueen, as he presents them an Army North certificate of appreciation as well as a personal letter of appreciation from him. McQueen thanked 10 volunteers during two separate ceremonies Aug. 20 and 22. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Corey Baltos, Army North PAO)
