The Camp Humphreys Women's Equality Day observance, hosted by the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, was held in the Community Activity Center Aug. 16. Guest speaker for the event was Command Sgt. Maj. Lourdes Berrios-Powell, the 2CAB command sergeant major. Nationally, Women's Equality Day is observed on Aug. 26, which is the date in 1920 when votes to women officially became part of the U.S. Constitution.
This day marks a turning point in histroy of the struggle for equal treatment of women and women's rights. As part of the program, Soldiers paraded through the observance, demonstrating, sort of the way women did, almost 100 years ago, to get the right to vote. "The 19th Amendment symbolizes that men and women are born equal, to achieve their own bright futures," Berrios-Powell told the audience.
