Col. Lawson visits Taeseongdong

TAESEONGDONG, South Korea " Col. Michael J. Lawson, commander of 210th Fires Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, participates in the Taeseongdong Village 60th Anniversary Celebration in the Joint Security Area of the Demilitarized Zone, South Korea August 2, 2013. The ceremony marked the establishment of the small village, known as "Freedom Village," after the signing of the Korean War Armistice in 1953. Attendees included senior leaders from Gyeonggi-do Province, the United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission, the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission, 2nd Infantry Division, and delegates from several embassies. The event included performances by the Taeseongdong Elementary School percussion band and the 1st Infantry Division Band. It ended with participants joining the citizens of Taeseongdong to build a rice cake tower of peace. The village is a symbol of the success of the ROK-U.S. Alliance that was forged during the Korean War and has grown stronger over the last 60 years. (U.S. Army photos by Capt. Kelly E.
