Staff Sgt. Benjamin Steele, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command's 2013 Noncommissioned Officer of the Year, receives the Army Commendation Medal during a ceremony at Fort Jackson, S.C., in July. A drill sergeant with 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment, Steele earned TRADOC's NCO of the Year honors after competing in a battery of events such as land navigation, media interviews, the Army Physical Fitness Test, and comprehensive knowledge and proficiency tests before virtual meeting with a board of senior noncommissioned officers, including TRADOC Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Dailey. Steele will compete in the Army Best Warrior Competition in October.
