Col. Mark Pomeroy (left), last commander of Deseret Chemical Depot, Utah, with assistance from Master Sgt. Eric Ryals, prepares to case the depot colors, formally closing the depot after 70 years of chemical weapons storage and demilitarization operations. With Deseret Chemical Depot's mission completed, the nearly 20,000 acre installation now is formally transitioned to Tooele Army Depot, Utah, where it again will be known as South Area, but with a new mission to assist with the storage and distribution of conventional ammunition in support of U.S. military readiness.
