An Old Guard Soldier sounds Taps at the tomb of George Washington at Mount Vernon in Alexandria, Va., June 10, 2013. Secretary of the Army John M. McHugh laid a wreath commemorating the Army's 238th birthday in the tomb of the service's first general and later the country's first president. Washington also created the nation's first version of the Purple Heart, the Badge of Military Merit, which he presented to three enlisted Soldiers on Aug. 7, 1782.
