Alexandria Technical Rescue team members prepare to enter a 36 inch culvert that will eventually lead to a 24inch 'void' space. Not only is the space obstructed with reinforced concrete barriers that the teams will have to cut through, the rescuers will have to extract any 'survivors' they find within the simulated collapsed structure; all within a three hour time limit. The fire fighters were participating in the annual training program called Rescue Challenge, designed to challenge technical rescue teams from Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia and the Federal Government.
