Sgt. 1st Class Matthew Loheide Silver Star

Sgt. 1st Class Matthew J. Loheide was awarded the Silver Star medal, April 5, 2013, during a ceremony outside the headquarters of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), at Fort Campbell, Ky., for his actions during an enemy ambush in the Kunar Valley, Afghanistan, in 2010. Loheide, who is from Patchogue, N.Y., was attached to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Loheide, who re-enlisted during the ceremony as well, now serves as the Adaptive Reconditioning Program Noncommissioned Officer at the Warrior Transition Battalion on Fort Campbell. Loheide's wife, Marianne, and daughter, Annabella, also were a part of the ceremony.
