Brig. Gen. Dana J.H. Pittard, speaks to the runners and support staff or Run for the Fallen at the National Training Center and Fort Irwin prior to the start of their run. The run began on the Army Birthday, June 14th at Fort Irwin's Painted Rocks. The purpose of the run is to honor all of the Service members lost in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom by running one mile in memory of each one. Four runners will relay across thirteen states in 72 days to complete the run. The run is scheduled to finish at Arlington National Cemetery on August 24th.
