SAN ANTONIO - Crowds gather at the Alamo March 2 to attend the Texas Independence Day Celebration at the Alamo. The attendees were also able to view the famous "Victory or Death" letter, authored by Col. William Travis, who served as the Alamo commander. The letter is on display at the Alamo through March 7. The celebration was conducted by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Alamo Mission Chapter to honor the men and women who fought and died for Texas Independence 177 years ago. The event included a reading from the Texas Declaration of Independence, the laying of a wreath and the tolling of the Alamo mission bell in commemoration of the thirteen days of the Battle at the Alamo.
