Col. Alan Shumate, a Special Forces officer assigned to the U.S. Army Special Forces Command (Airborne) at Fort Bragg, N.C., speaks during a dive tower unveiling ceremony at the Special Forces Underwater Operations School Dec. 7 in Key West, Fla. The dive tower on the school's campus, used for 50-foot free ascent exercises, was originally dedicated in 1994 to honor Shumate's father, Sgt. Maj. Walter Shumate, a Special Forces Soldier who helped set up the SFUWO in the mid-1960s. The Dec. 7 unveiling showcased the newly painted tower's Special Forces and Combat Diver insignia.
