TRENTON, New Jersey - Lt. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV (left) speaks with N.J. Gov. Chris Christie and U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff Nov. 3 at the Regional Operations and Intelligence Center at the State Police Headquarters here. Caldwell spoke with them about the Department of Defense's partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the "whole of government" response to Hurricane Sandy. Caldwell visited the site to meet with Col. Barrett Holmes to discuss the state's emerging needs, which may require Department of Defense assistance. Caldwell is the commanding general of U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) and senior commander, Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, Texas. Holmes is the defense coordinating officer for Army North's Region IV Defense Coordinating Element. Cunniff is the New Jersey adjutant general. Also visiting the site were Command Sgt. Maj. David Wood, U.S. Army North (Fifth Army), and Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Winzenried, North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. Army North is the Joint Force Land Component Command for U.S. Northern Command.
