Soldiers, Defense Force Members have a blast during Orient Shield

Leadership from 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, as well as from the Japan Ground Self Defense Force, discuss coordinates during a mortar live-fire exercise. The live-fire training was part of bilateral exercises between U.S. Soldiers and Japanese Defense Force Members during Orient Shield 12 at Aibano Training Area near Imazu City, Japan. Orient Shield 12 is a premier exercise designed to strengthen the U.S.-Japan alliance at the tactical level in order to enhance interoperability and combat readiness.
