U.S., Japan Prepare for Mock Battle during Orient Shield 12

Lt. Col. Jonathan Larsen, Battalion Commander with 1st Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment out of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, emphasizes the importance of bilateral cooperation in order to effectively destroy enemy forces during Operation Golden Dragon. Leadership from 1-14th stood alongside their Japanese Ground Self Defense Force members as they discussed the detailed plan for the simulated battle taking place at the end of Orient Shield 12. Orient Shield is an annual exercise co-sponsored by Japan and U.S. Army Pacific designed to enhance combat readiness and interoperability at the tactical level. Orient Shield is slated to end Nov. 7.
