The National Guard response force is part of Governor Cuomo's call-up of more than 2,200 Guardsmen in response to subtropical storm Sandy, which struck New York City and Long Island, Oct. 29, 2012. The National Guard has been supporting local emergency responders in and around Long Beach to assist residents coping with the severe flooding caused by the 10-foot storm surge.
