Army designing tastier meats for field rations

Robert Gardner, food technician a FPL Foods in Cayce, S.C., clears the metal extruder to ensure a smooth and consistent sheet of meat as it enters the continuous osmotic dehydration process. A second sheet of parchment is laid over the meat from the roll on the right. Flavoring and nutrients can be added to the meat when it is ground up before entering the processor.
