D-Day vessel navigates through Cheatham Lock

The 69-year-old Landing Ship Tank 325 enters Cheatham Lake at 2 AM, Sept. 17, 2012 having become the first LST in history to pass through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District's Cheatham Lock at Ashland City, Tenn. Commissioned Feb. 1, 1943 the USS LST 325 saw extensive combat duty in the European Theater in World War II; service with the Military Sea Transportation Service as USNS L...ST 325 during arctic operations in the 1950's and later as L-144 (A/G Syros) while in the service of the Greek Navy. The USS LST Memorial, Inc. obtained the ship in 2000 and will offer public tours of the now fully operational World War II-era ship Sept. 18-24, at Nashville's Riverfront Park.
