SAN ANTONIO - Retired Col. Ernest John "Jack" Davis celebrates his 88th birthday with a dance Aug. 15 at the Army Retirement Community Auditorium. Lt. Gen. William Caldwell IV inducted retired Col. Ernest John "Jack" Davis into the Order of St. George Medallion during Davis' birthday party and medal ceremony. The Order of St. George Medallion is the top award presented to members of the Army's mounted force by the U.S. Armor Association. Davis, 88, is one of the last remaining service members who served on horseback during WWII. he began his career as an infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division and served 31 years, to include serving through WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Caldwell is the commanding general of U.S. Army North and senior commander of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis.
