First Lt. Jennifer Richards (center), a nurse with the post-anesthesia care unit, from Madigan Health Care System at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., helps a Dominican staff member (left) while a father holds his daughter following her eye surgery. Dominican physicians, including medical interns and medical residents, worked side by side with U.S. military doctors and ophthalmologists as part of a U.S. Army Medical Command and U.S. Army South-planned medical readiness and training exercise, July 10-27, 2012, at the Central Armed Forces Hospital in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The MEDRETE team of Dominican and U.S. doctors conducted more than 350 eye surgeries on adults and children.
