A lane of American flags leads to the marble memorial at the City Point National Cemetery for Monday's annual Memorial Day observance. Smaller flags were planted before each grave marker for the event sponsored by the Jacob J. Pearson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 637, American Legion Post 146 and Veterans of the Vietnam War Post 6. Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, CASCOM and Fort Lee commander, Hodge was the keynote speaker. A brass quintet from the Fort Lee 392nd Army Band performed patriotic music, and a color guard from the Noncommissioned Officers Academy at the Army Logistics University posted and retired the colors.
