Six Advanced Individual Training Soldiers from the 6th Air Defense Artillery Brigade learn how to load AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles on the M48 Chaparral self-propelled Forward Air-Defense System at Fort Bliss, Texas, in this 1981 photo. The Chaparral system used doppler radar and an infrared homing guidance system to engage enemy fixed and rotary-wing targets. It remained operational in the Army until 1997.
