Irrigation ditches

Cadets who traveled to Rwanda on Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency missions helped dig irrigation ditches with local villagers and Rwandan soldiers. Missions such as this are designed to immerse ROTC cadets in various languages, cultures and socio-economic situations so the cadets can learn, through personal experience, that theirs is not the only culture in the world. Humanitarian assistance is one way the Cadets learn about the people in the country to which they travel. This gives them one-on-one time with the locals and allows them to see how they live, and learn their cultural.
