Westphal hosts swearing-in of 20th general counsel of the U.S. Army

Prior to the Feb. 9, 2012 ceremony at the Pentagon to swear in Brad R. Carson as the 20th general counsel of the Army, Dr. Joseph W. Westphal, under secretary of the Army, meets with the Carson family. As the general counsel, Carson serves as the legal advisor to the secretary of the Army and the chief legal officer for the United States Army. The general counsel also serves as the Army's Designated Agency Ethics Official, responsible for the worldwide management of the Army ethics program. On Sep. 14, 2011, President Barack Obama nominated Carson to serve as the general counsel of the United States Department of the Army.
