Choctaw minister Rev. Frank Wright (re-enactor Mark Megehee, Fort Sill Museum staff) talks to the audience during the Fort Sill National Historic Landmark Museum candle stroll Dec. 11 at the orginal Post Chapel. Wright spoke about the language barrier in 1891 between the whites and the indigenous population. A promising young minister at the chapel, Rev.Gassaway was so animated in his exhortations that during his first sermon he made the American Indians think he was mad at them. At another sermon, Gassaway used the word "bread" and the American Indian congregation immediately walked out looking for food, Wright said.
