FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas " Honor Guard members position themselves to lower the remains of retired Gen. Ralph Haines Jr. from the horse-drawn Caisson at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Dec. 3. Military and civilian community members gathered to pay their respects for Haines, who was 98 years old at the time of his death and was the oldest living 4-star general and senior retired officer. Haines served as the Vice Chief of Staff of the Army from 1967 to 1968.
