Under Secretary of the Army, HON Dr. Joseph W. Westphal (center) receives the Order of Saint Maurice (Civis), patron saint of the Infantry, from Colonel (Promotable) Burdett K. Thompson (left), and Lieutenant Colonel David C. Foley (right) for his demonstrated dedication and contributions in support of the Infantry community. HON Dr. Westphal's commitment to the Infantryman represents the highest standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence, and dedication to duty. The Order of Saint Maurice is awarded by the National Infantry Association and the Chief of Infantry of the United States Army. It is named after Saint Maurice, the leader of the Roman Theban Legion in the 3rd century. The Civis level recognizes civilians who have made significant or outstanding contributions to the U.S. Army Infantry.
