The 1.3 million square-foot Fort Belvoir Community Hospital medical campus in Virginia will be part of the National Capital Region's integrated military healthcare organization, a world-class medical delivery system dedicated to care for the needs of service members and eligible beneficiaries. Base Realignment and Closure 2005 actions in the NCR merged four inpatient facilities -- DeWitt Army Community Hospital, Walter Reed Army Medical Center, National Naval Medical Center, and Malcolm Grow Medical Center --and combined them into two inpatient facilities at Fort Belvoir and at the Naval Support Activity Bethesda, Md. Together with the U.S. Army Health Facility Planning Agency, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Norfolk District managed the design and construction of the $807 million Fort Belvoir project, while the Army Corps' Baltimore District managed the design and construction of the other facilities on the campus.
