The 9/11 memorial at the Regional Command-East Headquarters at Bagram Air Field stands as a reminder to all U.S. troops why they are serving and fighting so far from home. The memorial was created from scrap steel found at Ground Zero. The beam was originally given to the 82nd Airborne Division in 2009, then in command of Regional Command East. Since then the beam has been under the care of each U.S. division that has headquartered at Bargram. Once U.S. forces complete their operations in Afghanistan the beam will be sent back to American soil where it will permanently reside at Fort Bragg, N.C.
