Fiesta San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event, but now features more than 100 events with an economic impact of almost $284 million for the city. Every event during Fiesta, known as "The Party With a Purpose," raises money for a different charity in the city. Fiesta started as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto, and still does, but has grown into a celebration of San Antonio's rich culture. One of the cherished traditions includes exchanging and collecting medals from different organizations, clubs and royalty. 2011 marks the 120th anniversary and the 175th Battle of the Alamo.
