Sgt. 1st Class Amanda Kokkonen, a drill sergeant based at Fort Monroe, Va., demonstrates the push-up during a simulated Army Physical Readiness Test, April 7 at the Pentagon Athletic Center. The APRT increases the pace of push-ups by not allowing any rests, but also reduces the length of the event from two minutes to one. The new authorized push-up also requires Soldiers to rest their hands no more than shoulder-width apart.
