The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command held a history workshop at Fort Benning, Ga., March 22-24. Participants included Army Materiel Command, Army Contracting Command and Joint Munition Command historians. The final day of the workshop consisted of a staff ride at Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, Ala. "The experience offered a new opportunity to explore logistics, sustainment, and contracting in Army history as well as a relatively local experience from before the Civil War," said Mikhael Weitzel, ACC command historian. In this photo a 1798 contract model Springfield is fired. The Springfield was one of the first major items outside of clothing, food and transportation contracted by the U.S. Army.
