Staff Sgt. Salvatore “Sal” Giunta, the first living recipient of the nation’s highest award for valor since Vietnam. President Barack Obama will present the Medal of Honor to Giunta in a White House ceremony Nov. 16 for actions Giunta took in a firefight in the Korengal Valley, Afghanistan, in October 2007. Giunta will accept, not because he believes he’s a hero, but in honor of the men he fought with and the men who died that day.
