FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - At the end of his two-day visit to Fort Wainwright, Secretary of the Army, the Honorable John McHugh, took time Aug. 25 to meet with local media for a short question and answer session. Accompanied by U.S. Army Alaska Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Raymond P. Palumbo, McHugh spoke on his visit to the post. While on his tour, he met with Soldiers of the Warrior Transition Battalion, speaking with groups and individuals. McHugh was briefed on the post's various units, equipment and the missions. "There's just no substitute for understanding clearly what happens at a particular facility than actually going there and talking to the people who live it; of course seeing the structures for ourselves." said McHugh, "It's an educational initiative...one that I think at the end of the day helps me have a better base of understanding, that hopefully will assist me in making the best possible decisions."
