First three-star Army general of Hawaiian ancestry retires

Lt. Gen. Joseph F. Peterson (right), deputy commanding general, FORSCOM, receives a flag from the FORSCOM commanding general, Gen. James. D. Thurman, during his retirement ceremony on Fort McPherson Aug. 2. Peterson retired after 38 years of service. He was the first person of Hawaiian ancestry to wear the three stars of an Army lieutenant general.
