A childhood photo of Cpl. Kyle Kaeo Fernandez, a Pearl City, Hawaii native and fallen 25th Infantry Division veteran, represents the state in the crafted artwork , the "Lost Heroes Art Quilt," during a ceremony honoring the sacrifices of military service members from each state at the Hawaii State Capitol Rotunda, Honolulu, July 21. The quilt, created by artist Judie Feingold, honors the sacrifice of fallen military service members of each of the Nation's 50 states with cutout photo portraits of the fallen heroes as children clad in "G.I. Joe" cloth jackets to represent the timeless spirit of the memory of their families. Speaking on behalf of Fernandez were family, friends, military leaders and Hawaii state officials. Fernandez was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2004. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. Jesus J. Aranda, 25th Infantry Division Public Affairs Office)
