HHC 1/3 Newsletter
Welcome to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). The company has undergone and will continue to endure much transition and personnel movement in a short amount of time. On May 9, 2012, MAJ C. Dale Terrill and I changed command here on beautiful Ft. Myer. I am very honored to command and work with these Soldiers daily, whose service and mission is one of the most unique within the Army. I cannot over-emphasize how the impact of this company and every Soldier is felt across The Old Guard and the Army.
This spring our Soldiers and leaders participated in an honored rite of passage, the Expert Infantry Badge testing and certification. I am very pleased to report that our Soldiers and family members did exceptionally well, with over half of our candidates receiving their EIB at the end of testing. These skills are important and the ability to test and pass is a great example of leadership and commitment for all those who supported but more importantly participated in this event. Congratulations is due to all these Soldiers and their families.
The Presidential Salute Battery (“Always heard, rarely seen”) continues to honor our Nation and its leaders daily. Their operational temp has increased significantly since last year, as the PSB has conducted already 57 missions since October 1, 2011 and is on pace to fire over 100 missions this year. These Soldiers and leaders provide the utmost in professional conduct and it is an honor to watch their missions. Additionally, these Soldiers participated in a series of Mortar Live Fire Exercises both as part of their own training and certification and also in support of tactical training by other units in the Regiment.
Over the last few months, The U.S. Army Caisson Platoon has seen many changes. The platoon has moved the location of its therapeutic riding program from Ft. Myer to Ft. Belvoir to better aid the Wounded Warrior program. Additionally, Caisson has continued its equine education and professional attributes by continuing to train with a new horse-training methodology. They are busy already this summer conducting both Twilight Tattoo and preparing for the Spirit of America tour in the fall. These Soldiers and horses deserve our utmost respect and encouragement for the myriad of difficult tasks they face daily, honoring our Fallen and helping our Wounded.
The speed and variance of operations here at The Old Guard and specifically HHC does not allow our Families and Soldiers to take a break. However, we welcome that challenge and will continue to support our Families and our Soldiers daily with their tasks and duties. To the families of HHC Soldiers, thank you for the continued support that you give to your loved one. If there is anything I can help with, please do not hesitate to contact me.
