Delta Company Newsletter

To Friends and Family of “The Dawg House”,

February was a very busy month for Delta Company as you already know. We spend 10 days in the field honing our infantry skills. We spend five days executing Land Navigation training under some pretty frigid conditions. Your Soldiers made vast improvements as the week progressed in both day and nighttime iterations. All this is in preparation for Expert Infantryman’s Badge testing which will occur in mid-March. We also spent five days working on Battle Drill 6a where we train on executing raids in an urban setting. We used a type of paintball round to ensure our men are shooting accurately and picking the right cover when being shot at! We wore the requisite safety equipment but one still feels that sting when caught in the open by the opposing force! However, I believe everyone learned a lot and some platoons had the chance to execute an air assault by riding in UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters on the approach to the mock “city” where the training took place.

We finished the field training with a 12 mile foot march with 40+ pound rucksack early on the last morning. Temperatures were below freezing during the entire three hour march but all of the Doghouse Soldiers came in under the requisite time! Phenomenal output by the men and both 1SG and I were very proud of all of them. We are now back in the cemetery and will execute the majority of funeral operations in Arlington National Cemetery for the month of March. Although it is both a mentally and physically demanding task, it is a task we are all proud to execute.

On an administrative note, The Old Guard yearbooks are here! You can order them online: http://www.oldguardgiftshop.com/ Each Soldier in D CO will be in the yearbook along with about 30 pictures of the company in action. The TOG Formal Ball is also coming up on May 13th. Tickets go on sale now, it will be a great opportunity to meet everyone! Have a great week!

With Best Regards,
MAJ James Stultz
