Attached is an overview briefing
containing results from the 2002 Navy Spouse Quality of Life Survey. Highlights include the following: Spouse Survey (fielded July-December 2002): • The spouse survey, the first Navy survey of spouses, was hardcopy only. • The survey response rate was 31%. • Spouses were satisfied with most QOL domains (slides 5 & 6) and planned to encourage the member to reenlist (slide 15). • 61% of enlisted spouses and 50% of officer spouses were employed • Less than 10% of spouses reported that they were actually looking for work (slide 8). • Spouses were dissatisfied with the impact PCS has on their career (slide 17). • 23% of enlisted and 24% of officer spouses reported using a military CDC’s regularly (slide 12) • Approximately 75% of spouses were aware of Family Support Programs and Services and Leisure/recreation Activities; significantly lower percentages were aware of Spouse Employment Programs, Children’s Programs, and Teen Programs (slides 21 & 22). • High percentages of spouses currently receive Navy information from other spouses, word of mouth, and the base newspaper; they would like to receive information via email/internet and Wives Club (slides 23 & 24).
