2012 Drill Sergeant of the Year
Staff Sgt. Jeffrey B. Heilman (Fort Jackson, S.C.)
Drill Sergeant Heilman was born in Philadelphia, Pa. where he graduated from Gospel of Grace Christian High School. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 21 years old and completed Infantry One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Ga. in December 2004. Drill Sergeant Heilman is the 2012 Drill Sergeant of the Year for Fort Jackson.
Drill Sergeant Heilman’s assignments include: Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2-30th Infantry Battalion, 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, Louisiana; Bravo Company, 4-10th Infantry Regiment, 171st Brigade, Fort Jackson; Bravo Company, 3-34th Infantry Regiment, 1-65th Infantry Regiment. His deployments include: Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Drill Sergeant Heilman’s military education includes: Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Maneuver Senior Leader Course, Infantry Mortar Leader Course, Drill Sergeant School, Basic Instructor Training, Airborne School, Combatives Level 1, Combat Life Saver Course, and 533 hours of training through the Army Distance Learning Program. He has 33 semester hours of college credit towards a bachelor's degree in Business Management from Troy University.

Drill Sergeant Heilman has distinguished himself by being selected as the Honor graduate of Warrior Leaders Course, top 20% during Advanced Leader Course, Infantry Mortar Leader Course and Senior Leader Course. He won the 2011 Battalion Best Drill Sergeant Competition and was chosen as the Company Drill Sergeant of the Cycle at the completion of his second cycle.
2012 Reserve Drill Sergeant of the Year
Staff Sgt. Jarod P. Moss (95th Reserve Division)
Drill Sergeant Jarod Moss was born in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Winfree Academy in Irving, Texas, and in June 2001 he enlisted into the U.S. Army. In February 2002, he completed Bradley Fighting Vehicle Maintainer Course, One Station Unit Training at Fort Knox, Ky. Drill Sergeant Moss completed Drill Sergeant School in 2006, where he distinguished himself by graduating in the top 20 percent of the Drill Sergeant School. In 2012 he was selected as the 95th Division Drill Sergeant of the Year.
Drill Sergeant Moss’ assignments include: HQ Company 2/72nd Tank Battalion, Camp Casey, Korea; Alpha Company 204th Field Support Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas; Alpha Company 1st Bn 355th Regiment Field Artillery Battalion, Grand Prairie, Texas; Alpha Company 2nd Bn 354th Regiment, Grand Prairie, Texas; and Delta Company 5/46th Infantry Battalion Fort Knox, Ky. His mobilizations included duty at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Drill Sergeant Moss’ military and civilian education includes: Warrior Leader Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course Phase I, Combatives Level I, Drill Sergeant School, Combat Life Saver Course, and 224 hours of training through the Army Distance Learning Program. He has earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas-Arlington.
