Additionally, Department of the Army civilian John Hixon received the Superior Civilian Service Award for his "exceptional service as a Detailed Inspector General for the US Army Sustainment Command from January 2012 through March 2013."
Brig. Gen. Duane Gamble, ASC deputy commanding general, presided over the ceremony and provided a brief biography of each individual, after which he said, "So there you have it, the story of these patriots; individuals who are contributing members of the greatest team in the world, our United States Army, a team that relies on people like these we are about to reward and retire, to do the difficult, dangerous work of defending our nation and advancing the cause of freedom.
"But, really, what I told you isn't the full story," he continued. "I just skimmed the surface. There is so much we could say about each of these people, maybe small things that we don't even know about, small things that they did for others, and which all added up to some very large and significant actions that moved the Army."
The invocation was presented by Chaplain (Lt. Col.) Robert Land, ASC command chaplain. The Commander of Troops was Sgt. Maj. Robert Bell, ASC G3 Operations Deployment Sergeant Major and serving as narrator was Col. Regina Draper, ASC deputy chief of staff for Force Protection. Soldiers from ASC comprised the color guard.
