A coalition of leaders who made a new Training and Education Center possible at Letterkenny Army Depot, Pa., gathered May 28 to cut the ribbon and dedicate the facility.

Lt. Gen. William Mortensen, deputy commanding general of U. S. Army Materiel Command, joined with Col. Steven Shapiro, commander of Letterkenny, along with Senator Terry Punt, John Blake, executive deputy secretary, Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, and Dr. Lorna Edmundson, president of Wilson, in cutting the ribbon.

Letterkenny and Wilson partnered to provide educational opportunities to employees, contractors and the community.

Punt played a big role in obtaining the Department of Community and Economic Development grant of $400,000 which funded the state-of-the-art education facility.

Franklin County Area Development Corp. lead the rehabilitation efforts while Wilson College will provide the staff for the 25 desk facility.

According to Wilson officials, classes will be held during late afternoon and evening hours on week days, and possibly on weekends depending on demand.

"This is an excellent example of Wilson College, our community and Letterkenny Army Depot working together for the educational benefit of all," said L. Michael Ross, president of FCADC.

"The depot is growing and with that growth came the need for more training opportunities to refresh and renew our workforce with the tools required by today's technology," said Shapiro.
