Soldier Spotlight:

Best Warrior Competition Day 1

Spc. Thomas Hall, from Cambridge, Ohio, an air defense battle management system operator assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 210th Fires Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

Why did you participate in BWC?

This competition is for all best warriors in the entire brigade. I wanted to take my chances to standout and see how I measure up against them.

How long did you prepare for BWC? How did you prepare?

I studied for a week on basic military knowledge for the written examination and formal board. I also tried to spend a little extra time in the gym to better prepare myself for the physical fitness aspect of the competition.

With whom did you prepare?

I was given the proper tools from my NCOs on the topics I needed to study but everything was really up to me to put in the extra time and prepare.

Which event do you think will challenge you the most, and why?

The most difficult part for will be probably be night land navigation, since I haven't done night land nav. in a while. Land navigation is something in itself but to actually do it at night and to be in these mountains around here will sure be difficult.

To win this competition, what will it mean to you?

To win this competition and actually go on to represent 210th Fires Brigade for the Division Best Warrior Competition will make me feel great! It will allow me to stand out in front of all my peers and to be seen as the best warrior here in the Brigade.

What do you look to gain from this experience?

I look to gain recognition within the unit. It let's my leaders know that I am a hard charger, a go-getter, and hopefully that will put me in line for more responsibility, promotions and boards, and things of that nature.
