KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Staff Sgt. Alaina C. Broome, with the 102nd Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as a broadcast journalist. Broome, a Jackson, Miss., native, arrived in theatre Jan. 9, 2013.

This is Broome's second deployment, including a tour to Kuwait. Her mission during this tour is to monitor actions on the battlefield.

"I come from a military family who fought and died for what they believed was right," said Broome.

As we begin to celebrate Women's History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Broome had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.

"Once you decide that this is what you want, say a prayer, and then jump," said Broome. "It will not be easy, be strong! God will see you through."

When Broome returns home she said she is looking forward to spending time with her husband, Cedric Broome, and seeing her children and parents.
