KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan - Sgt. Maj. Tonia Littlejohn, with the Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as the senior logistics service supervisor. Littlejohn, a Gainesville, Ga., native, arrived in theatre Aug. 14, 2012.

"This deployment is different because it is my first time in Afghanistan," said Littlejohn. "My previous deployment was as a first sergeant, and was completely different, but either way I am here to serve."

This is Littlejohn's third deployment, which includes tours to Iraq. Her mission during this tour is different because this is the first deployment she has worked on a staff.

"I serve because I am proud to be an American and the Army is an outstanding organization," said Littlejohn.

As we begin to celebrate Women's History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Littlejohn had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.

"I feel that the Army is a great organization and has many opportunities for women. You will meet great people, visit great places, and learn so much that makes you qualified to do anything you choose once you have completed your service," said Littlejohn. "I have served for 24 years and experienced some of the most wonderful times a person could."

When Littlejohn returns home she said she is looking forward to spending time with her with her family and enjoying time in the United States before leaving to go to Japan.
