Sgt. Lacey J. Hunt, with the 102 Mobile Public Affairs Detachment, Third Infantry Division, is currently serving a tour of duty at Regional Command-South, Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, as the media embed coordinator. Hunt, a Clinton, Miss., native, arrived in theatre Jan. 9, 2013.

This is Hunt's first combat deployment. She has a previous deployment to Cuba.

"I got to do a lot more work outside," said Hunt. "Camp Delta in Guantanamo Bay is an outdoor facility."

Her mission during this tour is to augment the Regional Command-South Public Affairs Office. Hunt has served in the Army for 13 years.

"I serve because I have pride in service," said Hunt. "I also serve because I want my kids to have the same freedoms that I have always enjoyed."

As we begin to celebrate Women's History Month, which highlights the contributions of women to history, society and culture; Hunt had a few words of encouragement for women currently serving their country or those looking to serve.

"For those already serving, I would tell them they can't stop the clock," said Hunt. "If anyone is considering joining, I would say go for it."

When Hunt returns home she said she can't wait to hug her loved ones, Corey Hunt, Caiden Purvis, and Cori Jo Hunt.

"You can see your kids on FaceTime or Skype, but you can't appreciate how much they have grown until you hold them," said Hunt.
